Boxes ready, set, go...

Things are moving fast, very fast. The last couple of days were very fruitful in terms of packing : packing of my stuff, packing for the long way back, packing the bike itself for shipment, and putting the entire package into a truck for the airport! Be ready for the update this different ways of packing and the pictures coming along: -       Packing of my stuff (clothes and everything I piled up during my stay here in India): 105 kg in 3 boxes…not too much for a guy who has been living here for 2... Sajid and Javid...our garagists!

Sajid and Javid are 2 brothers reparing and making old bikes : BSA, BMW, Triumph and Enfields... I could write a long article on them as we spent long hours at their workshop in Mahim West (Mumbai) with Adrien...but lack of time today because of imminent departure for the Long Way Back! A big thanks to them and their mechanics....and a few pictures of the place and the men who know how to take ity the Aram Sey (= take it easy attitude) way:

First stop : Dubai

Dear all,We have reached Dubai on wednesday. Surprisingly Air India flight was good : it was on time and almost empty! After 3 hours spent in the customs (we had to pay some duty despite our carnets de passage) we found an indian guy to lift away our bike boxes and take us to an empty street to unload them and to break them to release the bikes. We spent 4 hours trying to break the boxes and to reassemble the bikes. It was hot and my bike didn t seem to want to work and move. We gave up fixing it at 11 pm and decided to leave them in a... Dubai vs Sharjah : not the same fight

No, we are not in Iran yet! I am writing from Sharjah, the Emirate next to Dubai. The one from which we will leave U.A.E for Iran by boat tomorrow morning.A little flashback is required: yesterday morning at 5:30 am we left Jean-Baptiste apartment located next to the highest tower in the world - Burj Dubai. Jean Baptiste is the brother of Marie L., a close friend of Adrien and I from Bombay. He is working in Dubai and was kind enough to welcome the supertramps we are becoming for a couple of nights. So yesterday morning, full of hope... [Lire la suite]

Desert ride

We left wednesday morning for a 2-day ride to Shiraz  - 470 km in the first humid and then dry desert! The ride was hot but the landscapes breathtaking (sorry didn't take much pics that day!) : we crossed mountains, valleys, mountains, valleys, oasis, etc...             My bike (I am calling it more and more 'titine'- a very affectous french name for a vehicle) started to behave badly after 250 kms. The sound of the engine was not reassuring and I thought I would not make it to Shiraz... [Lire la suite]

Shiraz - city of refinement and beautiful eyes

We spent 2 days in Shiraz - a city in the center of Iran of 1,3 M souls. People are layed back here. Despite being surrounded by dry mountains, the weather is very plesant, the city full of gardens, bigs bazars (one of them is the biggest of Iran), fast food joints where you can enjoy pizzas and Iranian burgers (but I guess it is everywhere the same in Iran). Shiraf is also the hometown of the greatest poet of Iran of all times - Hafez. He is a national hero here.               We met again... [Lire la suite]

Yazd, desert and qanats

We reached Yazd yesterday morning after a stop in Abarqu the night before on the route 150 km from Yazd. Abarqu was a pleasant surprise : This tiny city is lost in the middle of the flat desert : no mountains in that part of Iran...well, a tiny part because 70 kms later we were riding adjacent to a 4 000 meters high summit not far from Yazd. Abarqu has the oldest Cypree tree in Iran (4 000 years old), and houses and buildings made in cob (most of the old houses in the desert in Iran are made like this). We had our first night in our...
